New technology for increasing aromatics production in China new technology for increasing aromatics production in China May 12, 2004 p-xylene production in China has increased from 760400 tons in 1995, 1029200 tons in 1997, 1270300 tons in 2000 to 1454200 tons in 2001. It is expected that the amount of paraxylene required for domestic production of terephthalic acid will increase at an annual rate of 9% in recent years. In 2002, the total domestic demand for paraxylene reached about 1.7 million tons according to the global regional market. In recent years, China has developed aromatics disproportionation catalysts. The project of "toluene and heavy aromatics disproportionation and transalkylation, and the measurement range of its torque sensor always has a lower limit technology and catalyst" undertaken by Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute has successfully developed the process and catalyst for the production of benzene and xylene with toluene, C9 and C10 aromatics as raw materials, breaking the previous monopoly situation of large foreign companies in this field, China has also become an exporter from a long-term importer of complete disproportionation technologies and catalysts. The aromatics disproportionation unit of Yangzi Petrochemical Company has an annual processing capacity of 1.23 million tons. It is the largest benzene production unit in China, expanding from 74 coal mines with advanced capacity release to 900 coal mines. Since it was put into operation, it has been using the TA-3 catalyst of UOP company of the United States, but there are problems such as high feeding temperature and inability to process high-purity aromatics raw materials. For this reason, the company cooperated with Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute to develop za-94 catalyst, which was successfully used in pilot production for the first time in 1995. After the expansion and reconstruction of Yangzi Aromatics Complex in 1997, the two sides jointly launched and used HAT-095 catalyst, which reduced the feeding temperature and improved the conversion and selectivity to avoid failures;, And effectively improve the processing capacity of raw materials and increase the output of benzene and xylene. In 2001, the aromatics plant of the company used the new HAT-096 catalyst with higher speed and higher conversion rate developed by Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute according to the operation characteristics of the unit, and its performance indicators reached or even better than the level of imported similar catalysts, which not only ended the long-term dependence of China's aromatics disproportionation catalysts on imports, but also created conditions for the large-scale promotion and application of domestic catalysts. At present, hat catalyst has been successfully applied in nine units including Qilu Petrochemical Company and Yangzi Petrochemical Company, accounting for about 90% of the total domestic treatment capacity. The domestic 400000 T/a unit based on this complete set of technology was completed and put into operation in 1997, and another 800000 T/a unit is also under design. If the catalyst is applied in all the existing 10 disproportionation units in China, the emission of heavy aromatics such as carbon decane aromatics can be reduced by about 200000 tons per year, and the output of benzene and xylene can be increased by about 160000 tons
